In my initial sketch, the flying man was clothed in a simple shirt and pants and there were no birds. Once the birds “flew” into the rendering I started to like the little scene quite a bit. As I was finishing the rendering, I simply thought it would be fun to paint a suit (lots of opportunity for simple shapes and stylized detail). The associations that come with wearing a suit and tie also provided a nice contrast to this ridiculous situation. I like to include a few images to get the beginnings of many possible stories started. You say he’s a business man - What’s your flying business man story? Maybe he’s just a snappy dresser who fell out of first class. Maybe He’s Dead, being escorted to heaven by holy pigeons. You tell me!
and, oh yeah…the perimeter of your illustration suggests that it could be a passenger’s eye view out the window of an airplane. fun conjecturing. and nice green sky.
He definitly looks like he’s getting “rescued” from something much less interesting than his current situation. He probably works at a bank stamping something all day.
Love this! Your work is awesome. I seem to remember seeing this before, maybe on IF? Anyway, rockin’ suit! Perhaps just a daydream while staring at the retina-burning tube all day…

Well…..that bird on the far left…what’s his story? Did he get knocked silly by the wayward shoe?

I’d just like to think that perhaps pink bird is either dumber or more of an ‘outside-the-box’ thinker than the rest.
And definitely stamping.

and you thought BIRD droppings on your windshield were annoying.
I’m sorry. It’s 3:28am.
I like the “holy pigeons” idea. Possibilities there.
